Coun. Lisa Post wants to see new safety measures brought to an Orangeville intersection within walking distance of three elementary schools.

At its next meeting on Monday. Feb. 25, Post will request council vote in favour of installing a four-way stop at the intersection of College Avenue and Fieldgate Drive.

“There have been numerous vocal concerns from residents about the traffic safety of College Avenue,” Post said, noting three elementary schools, including St. Andrew, Credit Meadows and St. Benedict, are each located within walking distance of the intersection.

“The curve in the road on College creates a blind spot that, when combined with speed, makes the area a dangerous place for pedestrians,” she added. “The protection and safety of citizens on residential streets is a paramount concern.”

Through the municipal election campaign, Post heard two “significant” concerns from residents — the first was taxes, with the second being residential safety. Both she and other council members have received “dozens of emails” about College Avenue in recent weeks.
